About Josie

Graduating with a First Class degree in English Language from Newcastle University, gave me a deep understanding of how English works, particularly how written language is constructed and the effect it has on a reader. This is knowledge I bring into every session.

During my time in Newcastle, I started working with young people and that’s where my passion for education began. After working in schools and managing a private tuition centre, I decided to start my own business so I could provide English support I was genuinely proud of.

Over the past five years, I’ve worked one-to-one with GCSE students online, helping them with everything from reading comprehension and essay writing to language analysis and exam technique. I’m based in Yorkshire but work entirely online, which means I can focus fully on the student in front of me, wherever they are.

The first thing I do with every student is get to know them properly. Before our initial call, I’ll ask you to send me a recent piece of their work so I can get a clear picture of where they are and where the gaps might be. I’ll also send you a few questions to think about beforehand, so we can use our time together to identify exactly what they need and set a goal to work towards. That understanding shapes every session that follows.

I give detailed written feedback on every piece of work- not a generic comment and not just a mark. I provide specific, useful guidance that my students can actually act on. They should finish each session knowing exactly what to do differently and why.

I want all of my students to walk into their GCSE exam feeling genuinely confident. Not because they’ve memorised a formula, but because they understand their own ability and know they can trust their instincts.

I also work with home-educated children — including younger students working on their English more broadly, and older students preparing for GCSE English Language and Literature.
